TALKS
Michael Farr travels around the world talking about Tintin and for book signings. Apart from covering the length and breadth of the United Kingdom (from Cardiff to Dumfries and including regular appearances at Cheltenham and other Literary Festivals), Farr - fluent in French and German - has regular speaking engagements in Belgium and France, Germany, Scandinavia and Spain. He has taken Tintin on a North American tour (to Toronto and New York) and to the Jordanian desert, which he found to be the inspiration for many of the desert scenes in The Adventures of Tintin. He recently conducted a tour for the Swedish Tintin Society retracing the boy reporter's trip to the Black Island in Scotland.
His talks extend from primary and secondary schools (including Westminster, St Paul’s Boys, Francis Holland, Henrietta Barnett) to universities (Cambridge University, University College London, Copenhagen and La Rochelle universities) and learned societies (The Royal Geographical Society, The Reform Club Literary Society and most recently at The Travellers Club). He has spoken at The Science Museum and Institute Français in South Kensington, the Musée de la Marine in Paris, the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, and at the Wigmore Hall and Somerset House in London. Further international activities included giving the opening address to the 2021 Tintin Exhibition in Shanghai, the first in mainland China, and conducting a seminar for the Appalachian State University, North Carolina.
